Primitive Navigation with a Lunar Compass!

Most are familiar with a solar compass and how to navigate using the sun. Did you know that the same type of navigation can be accomplished at night using the moon? The method is relatively the same, and with hopes like that of having an unobstructed sun you may find yourself with an unobstructed moon to help you find your way. Below is a video made by Mitch of the Pathfinder School that I believe you will find informative and another useful tool to store in your mental Bug Out Bag.

Char Cloth, A must for any “Go Bag”

Fire, one of the most important survival tools a prepper has in his pack of life provisions,  is really easy to make if you have the right items.  Many items you need can be found and/or made at home.
Char cloth is one of those items.  With char cloth and just a spark, you can start a fire for warmth, cooking, light, and protection.  Char cloth is made from any piece of 100% cotton cloth.  An old t-shirt makes excellent material to make char cloth out of .  You also will need a small tin or metal box such as an Altoids box.  I have seen metal boxes for sale for several dollars to make char cloth, but get a couple of Altoids boxes.  Enjoy the mints.  Then with a small nail or drill bit put a very small hole in the middle of the lid.  This is very important.  It allows smoke to escape and oxygen to enter without enough air to start the cloth burning to ashes.  I use a gas grill, but any source of intense heat will work.  You can put several small cut pieces of cloth in the time and close the lid.  Place it over the heat source.  Soon you will see smoke starting to escape out of the hole in the lid.   When the smoke stops, very carefully remove the tin from the heat source, let it cool for a few minutes, and when you open it you should have black cloth.  That is Char Cloth.   Just one piece is enough to catch a spark and start burning so you can put tinder on it and have a fire.

What can a Prepper, Survivalist do with a tree?

What can one do with a tree? Ask anyone and you will get several answers but you will find them all pretty much the same, build a house, a bridge, fire wood, or maybe build a boat. They would all be right but the list is much longer than this.

Ask a Prepper or Survivalist, what can you do with a tree? Your first response would probably be which part? What kind of tree? You will find the possibilities are endless.
The bark of a pine tree contains antioxidants with anti-inflammatory uses. It can be used for mulch and did you know that the inner bark is edible? Bark can also be used for water filtration. The sap from a pine tree can be used to make turpentine, glues, accelerant for a fire, candles, medicinal, or even gum that can help clean your teeth or used as a temporary filling for a tooth.

The male pine cone flower is a great source for protein, the pollen from the male pine cone flower can be used to thicken stews or as a flower substitute. Pine nuts are edible and can be used in many recipes. The Pine cone itself can be used as a fishing bobber.
I can go on and on and I have not even gotten to the wood yet.

Following is a video on how to make a bark container from Joshua Hamlin of “WildPrimitiveSkills” on YouTube. Prepper /Survival library pages will soon be created on this site highlighting the best authors on how to videos such as the one below. Common Sense

An Obituary printed in the London Times – Interesting and sadly rather true. Posted by Alaska Rose on APN

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn’t always fair;
- and maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens
suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion..

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;
I Know My Rights ; I Want It Now ; Someone Else Is To Blame ; I’m A Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on.

If not, join the majority and do nothing.
